Projects
TANDEMS
When is an energy community like an energy cooperation profitable? What are the conditions for a constructive and durable cooperation with partners? What motivates citizens to take part? TANDEMS address these questions and more in 3 EU regios.
Build Up Skills NL
The energy transition in the built environment can only be successful when well-trained trade people are available. In BUS-NL we want to gain insights into the skills required for implementing the energy transition. We try to define challenges and we will help create a roadmap for an accelerated development of the required craftsmanship.
SSH Centre
Strengthening transdisciplinary collaboration between science, policy and enterprises for inclusive climate and energypolicy.
FemPower: Gender Equality in the Clean Energy Transition
To ensure a just and equal energy transition, we are increasing women's participation in the energy sector.
COIL: collaborative learning for the heat transition
We want to heat (and cool) our homes through the sun, ground and surface water. Polluting fuels like natural gas need to be replaced. But why is this 'heat transition' not coming off the ground? Within this Community of Innovative Learners (COIL) we'll collect ways to collaboratively speed up this transition.
Lightness: improving household capacity to participate in energy markets
Lightness enables energy communities to bring their energy flexibility to market through innovative business models that focus on multiple value creation
HESTIA: residential end-users in control of their own demand?
How can end-users help reduce the divergence between energy supply and demand in a way that puts the users, their needs and values, front and centre?
OFL: important questions in citizen participation
How can participation professionals involve social structures when neighbourhoods move to transition away from natural gas? What do we know about justice, legitimacy, polarisation and deliberative democracy that professional usefully apply in their work?
EnergyMEASURES: reducing energy poverty
Reducing energy poverty by changing daily practices and institutional conditions
NRG2peers: energy for and by the neighbours
What do communities need to trade or share the energy that they generate locally? How can use such energy exchange to become self-sufficient, to save costs or to maximize their community’s CO2 reduction?
Energy Business Models and Systems
How do successful entrepreneurs in the energy sector operate, which system conditions do they encounter and how do they deal with this? DuneWorks researches these questions for the International Energy Agency.
N.I.C.E.
How can we move towards a 'high-quality reuse' circular economy for materials and energy? N.I.C.E. has built a cross-sectoral learning network to support entrepreneurs and accelerate the transition.
Behavioural change in relation to the transition away from gas
How are existing social practices at household level likely to be affected by phasing out natural gas? What sort of challenges and opportunities does this bring up? This study offers guidelines to support municipalities in designing participatory neighbourhood strategies.
Nature4Cities
How to implement user-centered and socially inclusive climate adaptation strategies? In Nature4Cities is developing such tools and mechanisms for Nature-based Solutions.
Uptempo! Accelerating the energy transition by innovation intelligence
How can learning contribute accelerating the energy transition? DuneWorks is involved in UpTempo! as advisor 'transitions and learning'.
Open Innovation in the Composites Sector
The composites sector in the Netherlands is a growing business. When entrepreneurs join hands they can strengthen their competitive position. In this Open Innovation project we support entrepreneurs in building relationships of trust and knowledge sharing.
Community-based Virtual Power Plants
We investigate how a community-based virtual power plant can create value for the community through the generation, storages, self-consumption and distribution of energy.
Board Memberships
We hold various board membership positions for several academic and advisory boards.
Energy Poverty
An essay written together with Susanne Agterbosch (Het PON) about the distributional effects of energy transition policy on energy poverty (in Dutch).
Energy and Behaviour
Energy and Behaviour is an international research programme set up to advise governments about (policy) interventions to engage people in more sustainable energy behaviour.
Aireys
A co-creative project with the ambition to make the Aireys neighbourhood more sustainable focusing on social, economic and environmental improvements.
SHAPE ENERGY
SHAPE ENERGY is a platform dedicated to a better integration and collaboration of social sciences in European energy policies.
Demand Response in Blocks-of-Buildings (DR-BOB)
The challenge in the DR BoB project was to optimalise energy demand in blocks-of-buildings (BoB) like e.g. university campuses, business parks, hospital areas and combine different already existing technologies in such a manner that they would enable Demand Response in a specific context.
Dynamic Pricing
We performed a literature review to assess possibilities for demand response targeting households in the Netherlands.
Sustainable lifestyles
DuneWorks conducted research on policies that governments can use to encourage sustainable lifestyles.
